The longstanding tradition of the Blues recognises the effort, determination and grit needed to excel in both the academic and sporting fields and remains the highest sporting accolade in Aotearoa New Zealand鈥檚 tertiary system.

Massey鈥檚 Blues Awards will take place on Tuesday 14 October at 6pm via livestream. This year will see 176 Blues presented, along with one Sporting Excellence Award. There will be 14 athletes receiving a Blue in two sports and one athlete receiving a Blue in three. There will be one Sporting Excellence Award presented, recognising students who have achieved the same level of performance as a Blues recipient, but in roles such as officials, coaches or umpires.

Alongside celebrating Blues recipients, four major award winners will also be announced: Campus Sportsman of the Year, Campus Sportswoman of the Year, Distance Sportsman of the Year and Distance Sportswoman of the Year. The winners are selected by the Blues Selection Committee, with one named the overall Supreme Award winner.

Chair of the Blues Selection Committee Associate Professor Andrew Foskett says it鈥檚 always a rewarding challenge to select finalists.

鈥淭he calibre of our student athletes always makes the job tough. Each finalist has shown incredible commitment to both their sport and their studies and truly deserve this recognition. The bar is always set high, and every finalist represents the best of Massey. They should be incredibly proud of their dedication and excellence.鈥

Returning host, Olympic pole vaulter and alumna Eliza McCartney will be joined by first-time Blues host Eugene Hepi, M膩ori Student Centre Manager and former Manawat奴 Rugby Representative and former New Zealand Men鈥檚 Touch Black.

The Massey Tertiary Sportsman and Tertiary Sportswoman of the Year Awards will also be presented, recognising exceptional performance, achievement and growth by students who have represented the university at University and Tertiary Sport New Zealand (UTSNZ) events.

The night will not only celebrate the success of our student athletes, but also the memories, moments and mahi that make sport special.
