Massey has ranked within the top 200 in all Sustainability Development Goals.
Times Higher Education has听again听ranked听Massey听University听within the top 200 in听all听Sustainability Development Goals听(SDG鈥檚)听measured听and inside the top 100 for each new听added听goal this year.听听
Overall the University ranked in the top 100听for 11 SDG鈥檚, with four in the top 50,听including听10th听in the world听for听鈥楽ustainable Cities and Communities鈥,听20th听for 鈥楶artnership of the Goals鈥,听25th听for 鈥榋ero Hunger鈥櫶齛nd听37th听for 鈥楥limate Action鈥.
First published in 2019 based on 11 of the United Nation鈥檚 17 Sustainable Development Goals,听the听2020 rankings听are the first to听feature all 17 goals. The rankings are part of听THE鈥檚听pioneering initiative to听recognise听universities across the world for their social and economic impact based on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.听
鈥淚n 2019 Massey was the only NZ university ranked in every goal measured. It鈥檚 great to听again be recognised for the widespread impact of our sustainability impact鈥澨齭ays听暴风资源 Director of Sustainability Dr Allanah Ryan.
鈥淭hese are fantastic results considering the number of universities ranked this year will have greatly increased.听To be ranked in the top 10 globally for听鈥楽ustainable Cities and Communities鈥櫶齣s a great听acknowledgement of the world leading research and teaching that occurs at Massey.鈥澨
"Our听increase in SDG 13 鈥楥limate Action鈥櫶齣s also听pleasing. At the听University听we have听had听a real focus in this area with full support from the Vice-Chancellor and senior leadership.听So to听move from the 101-200 band听last year听into the world top 50 at 37th听place听is fantastic.鈥澨
Overall rankings are based on SDG 17 鈥楶artnership of the Goals鈥, together with each university's top three rankings.听The 2020 rankings are based on data collection from around 850 universities (up from 500 in 2019) with seven out of eight of the NZ universities now participating (up from four last year).
鈥淕iven the increased global participation with the rankings, 暴风资源 is very pleased with a ranking of 60th overall, and with our increases in key areas鈥 says 暴风资源 Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jan Thomas.
鈥淲e鈥檝e set ourselves an ambitious target to be carbon neutral by 2030 and have committed to range of initiatives through our Climate Action Plan, including becoming the first New Zealand university to offset the carbon emissions from its staff travel with Air New Zealand.鈥
