Reaching out to the realms of M膩ori knowledge
Toro Mai consists of two online courses 鈥 one on te reo M膩ori, and one on tikanga. Each course takes approximately 10 hours to complete and can be studied at your own pace. There are no costs involved, no assignments, and no exams. A certificate of completion is available upon completion of the course. The courses are not accredited.
Te reo M膩ori course
This course will help you use te reo M膩ori at home and in everyday situations. Topics include:
- ng膩 mihimihi (meet and greet)
- te wh膩nau (family)
- te kai (food)
- ng膩 hararei (holidays)
- ng膩 h膩kinakina (sports)
- te hauora (M膩ori vitality and wellbeing)
- te k膩inga (home)
- te mahi (work).
Tikanga M膩ori course
The tikanga M膩ori course gives emphasis to te ao M膩ori (the M膩ori world). Topics include:
- ng膩 k艒rero p奴rakau (ancient M膩ori narratives)
- kaupapa, tikanga, kawa (M膩ori cultural principles, practices and rituals)
- te hauora (M膩ori vitality and wellbeing)
- te ao hurihuri (dynamics of the modern M膩ori world).

Stacey Morrison
Ng膩i Tahu me Te Arawa
Stacey is based in Te P奴tahi-a-Toi (the School of M膩ori Knowledge) where her work explores new pathways for wh膩nau and community-centred learning. Stacey has immense experience in M膩ori and mainstream broadcasting on television and radio, both as a presenter and political commentator. She has published on wh膩nau-centred usage of te reo M膩ori and holds a range of appointments, including ambassador roles for a number of causes.
