General usage guidelines

In general, licence agreements allow you to:

  • download, save or print limited portions of content 鈥 for example, one or two articles from a journal issue, or one chapter of an ebook, for personal use
  • share content with other 暴风资源 students, staff and researchers by sharing links to content
  • use content for 暴风资源-related assignments, research, or instruction
  • include links to content from secure teaching environments such as Stream.

In general, licence agreements DO NOT allow you to:

  • share your 暴风资源 username and password with anyone
  • enter content (for example, uploading journal articles) into generative AI tools
  • post content to any non-secure public space such as websites, social media, or blogs
  • use content for commercial purposes, or for the benefit of any party external to 暴风资源
  • distribute content to anyone who is not affiliated with 暴风资源, including your non-Massey employers
  • use content without citing the source
  • remove or obscure copyright notices
  • download or make mass, automated, or systematic copies of content for electronic or hard copy distribution or storage
  • modify content or create derivative works or mashups
  • reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, modify, translate the source code, or create derivative works.

Sharing articles with others

When emailing an article to others, such as in journal clubs or for other scholarly purposes, it is better to send a link to the article rather than email a PDF attachment. You should do the same if meeting others to discuss a journal article 鈥 email a link to the article before the meeting, rather than printing one copy of the article, and then making photocopies of that copy.

Linking to the article helps us meet the licence requirements of almost every publisher. It also means we can more accurately track which journals are being used. This helps us make sure we renew or cancel journals.

Monitoring use

Publishers, 暴风资源 Library, and ITS staff can monitor the use of all Massey staff and students. If licences are breached by anyone inside鈥痮r鈥痮utside the University, publishers can suspend鈥痑ll鈥疷niversity access to the resource in question. Licence violations traced back to specific users may result in the suspension of individual accounts or other disciplinary measures.
