To find articles you can get from the Massey library, start with Discover.
Find a specific article in Discover
If you need to read a particular article, you can search for the article title. In the reference, the article title comes first, followed by the journal title.

Go to Discover.

Write the title of the article you want in the Search box. Make sure the words and spelling are exactly right.

Put speech marks ("") around the title 鈥 Discover will search for the exact wording of the title and you will be more likely to find what you need.

Click on Search to see the results.

If you don鈥檛 see the article you need in the results (and the spelling is correct), try Google Scholar. Click on the Google Scholar link in Discover, under Supplemental searches on the left.
If you can't find an article by searching for the article title, you can try searching in Discover for the journal it was published in.
If the journal is in the results, follow the links under 'Access options' to see if the article you need is available.
Articles on your topic
You can use Discover to find articles on a topic for your assignments.

Go to Discover.

Write keywords for your topic in the Search box.

Click on Search to see the results.

Your results will probably include books and other types of resource, as well as articles. If you want to read only articles, filter by 'Scholarly (peer reviewed) articles' or by 'Source type' (which offers a few different types of journals/magazines).

You may also want to try individual article databases suitable for your subject area, rather than searching many databases at the same time in Discover.
Scholarly (peer-reviewed) articles
For your Massey essays and assignments, you'll probably need scholarly or peer-reviewed articles, also called academic or refereed articles.
These articles are reviewed by experts before publishing 鈥 so they're more reliable than many other sources.
In Discover, look for the 鈥楶eer reviewed鈥 note in the results, which shows on scholarly (peer-reviewed) articles.
You can also filter your results, so you see only the peer-reviewed articles.

Go to the filters below the search box on the results page.

Click on the filter that says Scholarly (peer-reviewed) articles.
Other article databases may have similar limits and icons.
Scopus only contains articles from scholarly (peer-reviewed) journals.
Full text articles
Massey has the full text of most articles, which you can read online. If we have the full text of your article, you'll find links to it in the search results.
Look for links that include 'Access now' or 'Access options'.
鈥楥heck for Full Text鈥 links take you to a screen where you can link to full text if available. Or, ask Library staff to find the article for you.
If an article isn't available online, the library may have it in print.
Search for the journal title in Discover. If it appears in the results with the location as a campus library, then it is in print.
You can click on the journal title and 鈥楻equest an article from this journal鈥.
If you are on the same campus as the journal, you can find the journal yourself using the call number.
If Massey does not have the article you want, either online or in print, we may be able to get it from another library for you, using our interlibrary loan service.

Review articles
Review articles, or 鈥榣iterature reviews鈥, give an overview of the research on a topic. Good databases to search for review articles are:
- (add 'review' as a keyword)
- (add 'review' as a keyword)
- (limit results to 'Document Type - Review')
Newspaper articles
As a Massey student, you have access to databases where you can read current and historical newspaper articles.
Current newspaper articles
Newspaper article databases may cover different regions, date ranges and so on. Look through our lists to decide which are the most useful for you.
Discover is also good for finding newspaper articles. Limit your search results to 'News' under 'Source Types' in the column on the left.
Historical newspaper articles
Use any of these online databases to find newspaper articles from history.

You can also use the Index to New Zealand Periodicals 鈥 a print index that contains summaries of a wide range of newspaper articles published in New Zealand. There are three volumes:
